I always enjoyed building model ships as a kid, loved it when they floated in the water (U.S.S. Arizona and U.S.S. Missouri and New Jersey were good ones for that) and it kinda bit when they didn't (most destroyers and aircraft carriers would just flop over in the water). So this one kinda took the cake.
The other models? Airplanes were good for lighting on fire and trying to make look "real" with my old wind 35mm camera I got in boy scouting for a merit badge when they no longer satisified me hanging from my ceiling. Trying to melt two of them together (An old bi-plane and an F-5) like they colided in mid air and morphed together in the "extreme heat" was another fun project.
Ahhhh gotta love being a kid at times.

Oh NOW we're going to drill for oil in America.
Rush is right! When you look at liberals through the lens of "everything they do is for political spin or gain" they become so much more predictable.
Now - NOW - now - N O W....after having a majority in congress on Bush's term (and him signing everything they pushed his way including the legislation that setup the fall of the housing market) the democrats (Obama) are going to authorize drilling for oil off America's coastline.
Look at this through the political lens of spin and gain: WHY now? WHY? We've had energy problems for YEARS and despite Americans screaming for it under Bush it never happened. Why now?
BECAUSE they realize their stupid arses just did something the American people didn't want them to do by ramming healthkare up our noses and they are trying to buy your vote. Hopefully the media spin will take the focus off this dedvastating piece of legislation by focusing now on oil.
Besides....I thought oil companies were evil. Aren't they? So why drill now? What about the environment? Oh, and of course, Obama is suddenly a patriot visiting all these military bases to make the announcement. Suddenly he's all in for Afghanistan, suddenly he's visitng the troops, suddenly he's committed to win. It's all for political gain my friends.
So who's he going to make happy by drilling for oil?
Obama: Look at this, genius: >60% of Americans DONT LIKE what you just did.
You only won the vote by 53%.
That would mean EVERYBODY WHO VOTED FOR YOU PLUS SEVEN PERCENT OF THE AMERICAN POPULATION are now ticked off at you.
And 40% still haven't read the bill and don't understand it but are still allowed to vote.
And the people who aren't ticked off, I'm certain aren't a bunch of right wingers who will love you for drilling. They are probably lefties who think oil is evil. So count 100% of America as being ticked off at you. Actually make that 110% because we count illegal mexicans in our censuses and let them vote too.
When I was in under Clinton he was NOT popular with the troops. He was an embarassment overseas. I would be ticked if that guy came to my base and wanted to shake my hand or give me a call. I'd put a booger on my hand before I shook his. Immature? YOU BET! But someone's gotta do it. So, just call it doing my duty for my country.
I still think it could be entertaining to watch Obama run again.

Oh good they found the one threatening republicans.....
They found a man threatening a Republican representative in Congress....... but nobody's been found regarding those who threatened the democrats over the healthcare bill.

YES! This is 13 states now for those of you who don't actually want to read the link I posted above.
I understand 37 states (that's 74% of the 50 United States - not 64 % of the 57 states Obama is president over ) are ammending laws and pending legislation that make this legislation illegal.
I'm betting this isn't going to last. The American people aren'g going to stand for this. Congress has underestimated the American people. This isn't going to stand. We know what we've been sold and when businesses get roasted by this and umemployment skyrockets even higher.....I think it will be amusing to watch Obama try to run again in 2012.

I can't keep a straight face when I watch this....how Stupack was sold out....I think it comes from having known some people who were into this stuff in real life (NOT ME! and I'm not talking about politics). From here.
Everything is propaganda......to the liberals.
One thing I've learned with the democrats is that EVERYTHING is propaganda. Everything is spin. In America you won't get an takeoover of the media because of the first ammendment. But what you WILL get is a willing media who believes in the ideals of a political orientation who will carry water for the communists trying to destroy america. Who refuse to cover events not friendly to their cause (like Tea Parties) and focus on others to create the reality in you, the voting public, in your mind so you vote the way they think you should and you see things the way they think you should.
Something I want to put to my readers is: everything you see Obama and the Democrats do - realize and see it as a propaganda opportunity for them.
Amazing how suddenly Obama is interested in winning the war in Afghanistan so he drops in on Air Force One yesterday to rally the troops saying "We're going to win!" and a YEAR LATER makes his FIRST Afghanistan trip. Serving under Clinton was bad enough.)
Where was he on this when the surge was being suggested and he waited nearly a year before deciding to go ahead with it? Here's what he was doing: trying to decide whether winning, losing or just staying in the war was going to benefit him politically. And now, selling healthcare isn'g going to benefit him politically so he's going to switch topics.
When things get messy for them (like passing unpopular healthcare that the American people do NOT want) they change topics and suddenly want to win the war (to appeal to the people they think hate healthcare and assuming that the people who oppose healthcare support the war).

America is THREE TIMES as effective at reducing pollution as the rest of the world!
Despite our using 75% of the world's energy that is consumed (although energy can not be created nor destroyed, only change forms) we only produce 25% of the world's pollution. That means, the rest of the world on 25% of the world's energy produces 75% of its pollution! I'm stoked to be an American (AGAIN!).

I understand tonight is Earth Hour. I am celebrating earth hour by doing laundry, making a Salad for tomorrow's Sabbath Dinner, and retiring to bed relatively early so I can arise refreshed for the church.
Morally, I'm a firm believer in conservation. If we look at the first three commandments given in the biblical account of the Garden of Eden (besides don't touch the fruit) they are: Be fruitful (be productive), Multiply (have kids) and Replenish the Earth (CONSERVE!). Unfortunately political winds being what they are politically driven conservation isn't about conserving resources, it's about controlling people's lives - what they can and can't do - turning a nation into a snitch-state or a police state where you call in your neighbors for having extra chocolate hidden in a trunk under their beds for being enemies to the welfare of mankind.
No, conservation is about conserving, but it needs also to be about and add an element of "minding your own business." I'm sorry but Congressman Wu, for all his accomplishments (including attempted rape before becoming a congressman) isn't intellectually witty enough to tell me what I should and shouldn't be screwing into my light sockets (unintended pun a bonus product of the sentence - at no extra charge!).
Anyways, tonight, I thought I'd celebrate a little American Excellence and remark that in our conservation and wise useage of our resources, I think I can safely say we are fulfilling the first of the three edicts given in Genesis. We can do better however and that's something else America excells at - we tackle our weaknesses and are a cleaner, safer, wiser and yet stronger nation in so many ways than we used to be.
I'm not advocating we ride donkey's to work, and I don't believe in man-made global warming, I'm just saying, we are cleaner, and we should be, but not because the government forces us to, nor should we make it our business what light bulbs someone else uses.
So for earth hour, I'm contributing to the economy and keeping thousands of PGE workmen employed by continuing life as usual. Tomorrow is the sabbath anyways and one seventh of my life is spent refraining from a lot of wasteful activities anyways, spent home with my family. I was on top of it long before the greenies came along anyways.

You know, I find it suspicious that nobody's been found or announced to be found who threatened the democrat congressmen yet. Isn't the secret service faster than this? Or better than this? Isn't it a bit myserious how nobody's been found yet?
Rush said it best when he noted that the story about the threats was a bogus storyline to distract from what's happening to our country and what the democrats are doing how they suddenly play the victim.
Does anyone even remember all the movies about George bush being assisinated and the burning of George Bush Effigies and such during the last administration? Code Pink smashing windowns at recruiting stations and bomb threats on military sites? How about the current president jumping all over a white police man for being involved with a black harvard professor yet when a muslim army psychiatrist guns down a bunch of soldiers, restraint is to be had and we mustn't leap to conclusions.....like they are doing now. What about the violence against opposition to the healthcare bill by SEIU thugs beating up demonstrators? How about the burning of effigies of soldiers in protests in downtown portland?
Anyone else see this as being one sided?

Going to Washington DC was one of the most amazing experiences in my life. It's one thing to read about and see pictures of it all but being there is an entirely different experience.
Perhaps what struck me most was just how fragile freedom really is. The documents that have made history? Locked up in vaults and protected by armed guards with security all around in every form concevable. But more than that, when you think of the wrangling and the contention this country has been through just to be born and how precipitous the course of events has been you realize just how fragile and yet how powerful freedom really is.
Would we still have freedom without the actual documents? Or, if they disappeared, could someone say that they never existed and it was all a myth and it's time to change things.
I got the impression that as long as those documents actually exist, the pen truly is mightier than the sword, and there is still a hold on liberty in our country.
In reading over the constittuion on the flight home I realized just how much really was unspecified in the daily affairs of American life. What scares me is just how much power the government has that isn't spelled out in that document, and yet how much power still rests in her citizens hands to protect their freedoms such as the right to bear arms, which as Jefferson noted, is so beautiful because we don't need the right to bear arms until someone tries to take it away.
I can look back on history and see the decisions where freedom was curtailed in order to preserve it. John Adams' signing of the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 which made criticism of the government by word of mouth or in writing a crime and made the requirements of citizenship to be residence in the U.S. for 14 years whereas previously it had been around four. This was because there were various threats of uprisings against the government and in order to preserve the freedoms that government provides, John Adams had to curtail the freedoms as well as prevent people who wanted to use citizenship to milk the government of its resources and alter its democratic processes from gaining that opportunity.
I hadn't realized until I saw "The Star Spangled Banner" and read the story about it what the significance of the story was. America was taking a BEATING at the hands of the British who had even burned the White House! They were moving north and about to put a strangle hold on Baltimore, but Fort McHenry stood between their blockade / invasion and American defeat in the war of 1812. In the morning, after suffering so many losses, to see the flag still there, that the U.S. had actually held out against the British was truly a victory at a time when America needed one and stood on the brink of being utterly defeated.
I'm still taking it all in. I have so much to reflect on but found so much material and inspiration for my blog while I was there that I'm still only beginning to make sense of it all. As the government is now offering to provide everything for us while taking it away from others in a redistribution of wealth - freedom is dying while many simply want security.

The death of America...is coming (unless)
I think I'm actually seeing the collapse of America in my lifetime. With the budget deficit Obama is running up our debt to income ratio as a nation is projected to be 90% of our GDP in 10 years due to all this spending that's done nothing to stimulate our economy. We really do have a storm that's about to overtake us and there's a few people at the helm stirring it up (about four of them, Pelosi, Reid, Obama (please choke on something or get a nasty germ from shaking hands) and Biden. This is deliberately calculated to destroy this country.
You can't ignore the church that guy sat in for 20 years with the anti american rhetoric.
Then there's idiots like some of the people I went to college with and who voted for him thinking it didn't matter - college as well as elementary educations are about worthless.
Now that they have my student loans I'm imagining the government is just going to take the money from my bank account in the future.

The Gettysburg Address
If you've never read this all the way though, I thought I'd just post the text for people to read and to reflect on of The Gettysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln. Perhaps my most prominent thought was what the founding fathers endured to establish a nation and what this president did to make it survive as I read what he spoke - were it not for him....there would be no USA. I only wonder what would have happened had someone else been elected. Beyond that, Lincoln recognized the sacrifice of the individual man in securing liberty. Generals stand at the head and kings rule, but without the common man - their efforts are nothing.
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate—we cannot consecrate—we cannot hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. Death to congress over healthcare?
I have to say I'm not surprised there are death threats against congressional members over this healthcare legislation. The American people did not want this.
My feelings on this are conflicted for several reasons. One, killing is wrong in this instance, we can't have a democratic republic if we simply kill the people we disagree with. It's no longer a free land. Democracy requires that the majority rule which means we don't get our way all the time. On the other hand, the majority of Americans do not want this at all and if a government simply refuses to listen to the people and uses democracy against them to take away their freedoms against their will, what recourse do a people have? It can't continue like this without being on a collision course between the power of the government and the will of the people.
Now there are lawsuits against the healthcare as being unconstitutional (It is unconstitutional) and the Republicans have managed to set the legislation up for a vote to return to the house of representatives so that this must be voted on again.....I'm curious what will happen and I hope it doesn't pass.

I'm in Washington D.C. for a few days. While I'm here, my wife is participating in some research for muscular dystrophy. I have very high hopes that a cure for her will be found but if not a cure perhaps we can contribute to the knowledge.
However, with her participating in the research her name is getting out there and she is now sought after to be studied (more than if she hasn't had various studies already done).
At any rate, this puts us in Washington D.C. for the first time in my life. Never been here. First, this city has more non-white people (there's a giant MIX) than New Orleans NEVER did. This makes N.O. look like "whitey town" and NO is very diverse as well. Today I counted I think 15 people who were white during my 10 hour sojourn through the hospital campus. However, I'm happy to report that racial tension seems non existent. The people of the city are very kind and very helpful.
But besides this, with the health "care" bill (redistribution of wealth and destruction of American excellence bill disguised as care) being recently passed, the people in the hospital seemed bored by the protests at the capitol. Apparently protests happen all the time here. But more surprising than this (I would protest every day every thing all the time if I had the energy and money and time to do so....I would stand next to congressman wu and just yell 24/7 at him until he quit from exhaustion....what I mean is I'm surprised they aren't happening 24/7 for as much as I despise this administration's government) - the people at the hospital support the healthcare bill.
Now, if you work in a hospital, I don't imagine you run a private practice so much as work for a corporation so your intellect on what it takes to run a business is going to be a little less enlightened than someone who actualyl has to make ends meet. So....what do they know? I bet they put on their lab coats to stand behind obama and pretended to be doctors (they were RN's and CNA's and LPN's (Lets pretend nurses). I'm sure they know medicine, just stay out of business and politics is all I can say.
While my wife was being tested today, I was being tested too! I had to do a squeeze-o-meter, a breath-o-meter (I blew a .000 BAC - WHEW! was worried the Khaluah I drank in 1992 or my nyquil habit were going to haunt me) and actually maxed the gauge out on my lung strength, pegging the needle. Not sure if that's from Boy Scouts and blowing on camp fires for years as a substitute to good firemanship and being too lazy to go find enough wood to actually make a self-sustaining fire (the forest is never in any danger from Scouts who are too lazy to build a good fire) or from playing trumpet.
However, I couldn't quite do a situp. Not without my feet pinned. Anyways, I have no dignity left from the navy anyways (it's GONE, they dug up the roots even and burned and plowed the field where my dignity grew) so I have these two girls crawling all over me in various poses testing every single freaking muscle on my body for a couple hours. Glad I took a shower. Glad it was two females because I don't know if I could have handled a sweaty guy doing that to me....okay, I have a bit of dignity left.
Anyways, the city is amazing. I saw the president's helicopter take off from the capitol today and have now seen the capitol (It's HUGE) and the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and some parts of the city that really look like they go back to about 1600 something. About the only things we have that do that in Oregon are trees (the ones we haven't chopped down).
Ticked because my freaking headphones apparently were mistaken as dirty laundry and got taken out by the maid and had to buy new ones, but don't know if I can crash out to Bourne Ultimatum (the only DVD I brought with me) another time.
Will see what tomorrow brings.

My arguments against the healthcare bill are the same that Boehner outlined. Reform needed to take place, but not by destroying the system which is what this does.
